Scanning electron microscope view of a neuron created from induced human pluripotent stem cells. In 2012 Dr Shinya Yamanaka & Sir John B. Gurdon were awarded the Nobel prize in medicine for demonstrating the generation of a pluripotent stem cell from a mature human cell. What that meant to the world, was that the potential to generate cells able to grow into any tissue type from our own cells was possible.

In this picture is a neuron, a cell of ectodermal origin, that Adult Mesenchymal Stem Cells in and of their own accord will not grow into. What Dr Yamanaka and Sir Gordon did was mind blowing. With their research the potential to grow new organs/nerves/tissues from all three germ line lineages using our own adult cells came into existence. The future of medicine is in your own body. The future is now.
